Painter Emily Wenner - April 2010, Boise

Boise artist, Emily Wenner, started painting with watercolors as a young girl who was fascinated by tragic and romantic events. Born and raised in Idaho, she continued to study art through various phases of her life, finding it to be the one true necessity to her existence. After receiving her BFA in Fine Art and BA in Art Education, she realized that she just wanted to paint.

This bohemian individual continues to create work that reflects her inner thoughts and emotions in her “turret studio” inside the Idanha in downtown Boise. Primarily she works in oils on whatever materials she can find that are inexpensive or free, owing most credit to her father, who helps her construct canvas boards and frames. She is also doing commissions for the time being, to have a small income. Her primary work focuses on women with psychological issues and romantic fantasies.

As a mother, the artist was blessed to be forced to grow up and work harder. She claims that her three year old son, though challenging at times, actually gave her the inspiration to sit at home and paint more, rather than always having to be out. Struggling to find a balance, she often feels as if she is living four separate lives.

In the last year, Emily was fortunate to be able to produce large-scale work in a studio space downtown through Boise’s Artist in Residency Program. You may have also seen her work at local art shows in downtown Boise. She hopes eventually to travel with her work, always striving to gain from new experiences, cultures, and passionate individuals.
