This month we will celebrate the completion of the children's book, Ana the No-toed Sloth. Written and illustrated by local artist, Nicolet Laursen (Nico).
After a successful funding campaign on KickStarter, the book is now complete. You can swing by Flying M to get a copy of the the limited edition book and view a selection of original illustrations.
Behind the Story
This project was inspired by Nico's volunteer trip to Costa Rica. She didn't blend in while she was in Costa Rica. It reminded her of growing up one of those odd kids.
While she was traveling, she thought a lot about the differences that build walls between people. When she first saw a sloth she thought, "WOW, I've never seen such an odd animal!"
So she decided to use the sloth character in her first children's book.
Meet Ana, the sloth.
Ana lives in a rainforest called, Abagullias. All of the sloths in Abagullias have three toes. They use their toes to hang from the trees. Ana is different—she has no toes!
About Nico
Nicolet spent her childhood in two beautiful resort towns, Lake Tahoe & Coeur d'Alene. When she isn't painting, you can usually find her developing websites or running in the foothills. She is an active member in the community and a strong supporter of volunteerism.
